I have a Crusade but starting to wonder if a GXL would have been a better option as I keep arguing with the climate control and I'm not overly impressed by the LED headlights. Don't know if I could give up the actuated rear tailgate though
Just Ordered a 17' GXL Auto in Graphite wanted manual but didn't want to wait as I needed another car asap. It's the wife's I'll get our 10' Hilux DC as a handmedown. 😂👍🏼
2015 auto GX demmo. Was used by one of the salesmen & was already up-specced with leather trim (which I wasn't too fussed about) & with 18" alloys. The demmo price & the 18" wheels sold me (re bit extra height clearance).
Just signed up for a Dec 2017 plated GXL. Plan is to tow a 2500kg Kedron van...approved by the Gall Boys, though they like a bigger tug! Couldn't afford the price of a new Prado, so this vehicle was the next best option. Am confident I won't be disappointed with the decision...just got to use the LDH/WDH to counteract that notorious rear-end sag. Let you folks know how it goes.
What's the ball weight on an unloaded Kedron van? Depending on drawbar length, often Prado owners can't open their rear door fully with a van hitched on. At least with the Fortuner this isn't a problem.
Tekka maki - That ball weight depends upon which van you purchase. They start with the 16' (which is what I am buying) with a ball weight of around 200kg (10% of van weight) up to the 22' with around 300+kg. Kedron is just in the process of producing their first triple axle van. It all depends upon your inclusions as well. With mine, the tare will be around 2150kg and I'll probably now load it to 2600kg. They're not light vans, but they go anywhere and make the return journey in one piece.
Hi Vulcan, I tow an off-road camper trailer about half the weight when fully loaded of the Kedron you're looking at and the Fortuner definitely feels the extra weight on sealed inclines when trying to maintain speed, not so noticeable off-road though at lower speed.
Vulcan; A mate has that CD of the Gall Boys towing their rig with the 2.8 lt-TD Hilux, & played it for us during a recent camp ground stay. Seeing where they drove with that van on the back of their Hilux makes me glad the Tuner's have the same engine & HiLux toughness.
For those who haven't seen the Gall Boys CD towing the Kedron van behind the HiLux, its worth a look if you can get your hands on it.
Anthony - in fact they've got 10 videos going back to the 1990's. The latest one is where they skull-drag a tandem van across the Maytown track behind a Hilux. The interesting thing is that Glen Gall (the camera and video guy) drove a Fortuner on that trip. Admittedly, he wasn't towing anything, but he said it was a very sure way to scoot ahead for those shots. If you have a look at Toyota's latest promo stuff on the Fortuner, they have it towing a dual axle Kedron van in the video shorts. When I suggested to Glen that I was looking at a Fortuner he was encouraging...though he did suggest the Prado would be better. Yeah it might be, but my money tree is not doing well in the heat and the golden goose managed to fly the coop.
