  • Aftermarket Qi Wireless Charging

    Hey,

This is my first post and I wanted to start sharing aspects of my build starting with the aftermarket Qi wireless charger I put into the stock phone tray.

This is the aftermarket charging unit I used - Inbay Wireless Charging Retrofit Kit - https://www.ecstuning.com/b-inbay-pa...240000-03~iby/

I also added a switch to the center console - IZTOSS Blue LED Switch - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...UTF8&psc=1

I'm really happy with the way it turned out. Since it connects to the 12V supply it charges quite quickly(~5-8W) compared to the stock USB which draws power from the Alpine unit.

Let me know if anyone is interested in doing this - I'm always happy to help.

    Shamal.

Thanks for the post. Helps verifying my thoughts, Does it charge well even when the car is on a bumpy road? This is a setup that works well for me now. Thought about installing it like you, but I thought the access is a bit awkward when cup holders are used, I ended up with this setup as follow, but the suction isnt hard enough to hold the phone in bumps...

Hey thanks mate. It charges really well even on bumpy roads - I have an iPhone X and it fits almost perfectly in the tray. I live in Kenya and we have the worst roads on Earth. Soon with iOS 12 I'll have Google Maps and Waze wirelessly on the main screen (cant wait for this!)

So iOS 12 is out, have you tried wireless CarPlay yet? How fast does it take for CarPlay to start after you power on? Any glitch?

shamu I resolved to CarPlay dongle and pulled a lightning cable from the back of the unit to get it working.
