some of you may know about what happens to a commonrail engine if the high pressure pump fails - basically , bits of metal from the pump get flushed into the commonrail , the injectors , fuel lines and the tank . the fix is to replace the pump and clean / replace all the affected parts , costing many many $$$$. I heard it was $15k to do that on the Prado motor , and diesel specialists can obtain repair kits containing the required parts.
I have been told by the dealer service manager that on our new GD engines Toyota have installed a filter which will catch these particles in event of a pump fail , greatly reducing the repair bill. this will be good news if its true. I'm picking up my new Fortie today so will confirm that and post back.
