  • Start of a project?

Me and family have been getting more adventurous with our camping and off roading as we have gained more experience with our Fortuner. It’s factory at the moment including tyres, incl nudge bar, but based on our most recent experiences we all decided that some mods were needed, we just aren’t sure what... here’s the challenges we had on our recent trip to North Stradbroke island 5 days beach camping...
no trouble at all with the soft dry powdery sand driving, car never missed a beat and showed no signs of struggling while we toured, but getting to the island and back when full loaded with 5 people, a dog and camping gear/provisions for 5 days it felt like we were dragging underside a bit in deeper ruts, also with stream crossings entry angle and exit angle felt a bit uncomfortable...
    our Wishlist is...
better AT tyres (almost due a set of tyres anyway, am thinking Falken Wildpeaks, of BFG, advice?)
    lift kit
    bull bar/recovery points front
    roof rack/grid
and under car armour, thinking Rival
Id welcome advice of what components you’d recommend and in what order you’d recommend we do these changes.
    Thanks
    Simsey

Stick to Light Truck tyre construction. Just be mindful of how much off road work you'll do & then decide if you want All Terrain or Mud Terrain tyres.

Re bull bar; with the weight you carry it might be worth while thinking about an aluminium bar. You'll save a few kilos of weight compared to a steel b/bar.

For your other gear, you can't go to far wrong sticking with the better known brands. Good luck.
