  • Deeds - New Member from Canberra

    Hi all,

Just signed up after purchasing a stock GX in Nebula Blue (Colour is growing on me).

Test drove all EOFY specials including Trailblazer, MU-X, Pajero Sport but they would have all been compromises.

Went with a manual variant and the base model so I can mod slowly as funds afford. Last two vehicles have been modified for off road/touring so not so new to the scene, but this is my first Toyota so finally get to do it right for once. With a burgeoning family space has become a priority, impressed with the cabin size and on road handling. Have only had the bus a couple of days so no off road work as yet, however hoping to test it out shortly after I sell the dual cab and develop some additional funds for the baics like tinted windows, CB radio and the following:

2" Suspension lift - Unsure what brand as yet, forum has a wealth of knowledge
Snokel - TJM or OEM, aethetics wise.
17" Alloys/AT Tyres - Unsure what sizes as yet, forum has a wealth of knowledge
Bar work (Winch etc) - Unsure if TJM/ARB or other, subject to long range tank)
Roofrack - Frontrunner or Rhino, forum has a wealth of knowledge

Seems to be a few of us from Canberra, although have only seen a white one with bells and whistles so far.

This will be more of a touring setup than anything, look forward to sharing the progress!

ARB prices are all published on their website (download the pricelist at bottom of screen)

Summit Bar fitted is $2782, add $338 for foglights (fitted), add $250 for colour coding. TJM were basically the same price when I looked.

I installed the foglights myself because I didn't like the stick-on switch they supply. I think the lights only were about $70 (without harness or install fee).

ARB Canberra service has been good.

Rhino has a Back Bone system coming out for the fortune soon, a member has the trial one on his Forty and I believe it looks better then the Front runner. But its also more expensive.

Thanks Dave, had quotes from TJM for all the above for MU-X so found it comparative to ARB as mentioned.

If I had the dough right now TJM would get the win, lots of rebate savings (And quoting via email, including discount has been handy).

Thanks mate, I saw that and agree... Backbone systems look great so am prepared to wait (Probably be one of the later mods).

Time to start small, like tinted windows and a factory snorkel.

i don't have a snorkel yet, but have you looked at the TJM with the wedge head. looks neat. i have an ironman bar, i believe they've gone up to $1500 now. there is plenty of options out there, it just depends what you want. I have a GX as well

Hi Deeds, from Canberra myself, (southsider). I've done the Coree, powerline, flee creek loop, it wasn't an effort for the Fortuner at all. I'm in a Graphite crusade which is getting the rhino bar tomorrow. hopefully see you on the tracks around.

                  Thanks SubNorman and StewGood .

Always the way isn't it, never see any and last two days have seen a couple of blue ones and a graphite one.

Hi Stew, love the ridge run, yet to do it in the Fortuner but can imagine it will feel luxurious compared to the Navara.

Will be keen to have some sort of Canberra catch up soon, few of us here.
                  Kind Regards,
