Got myself a really solid bike rack, capable of off-road travel. It's a Gripsport 2+2 Tilty with bike number plate holder and light. It can convert from two bikes to four easily and in tilting mode, the rear hatch of the Fortuner is accessible. The position shown in the picture is the center position, it can be raised slightly higher for less impact to the departure angle or slightly lower. Looks good, performs great.

thanks for the tip
I need 5 bikes and have the thule one but access to the rear hatch is an issue as it does not swing away like some 4 bike version. It appears the maximum swing away capacity with both Thule and Yakima is 4 bikes.
I have seen the below online. US based and looks like may be another solution to use my existing rack.

I have emailed them for a quote with delivery.. sent last week.. no response.
if anyone comes across a similar thing in oz let me know
Crusade, Summit Bar, Dobinsons Monotube, BFG AT.

That looks pretty good. Seems like there are a few along similar lines but nothing in Australia.

Never seen anything aus built for 5 bikes aside from ute mounts/trailers. The only possibility is a weird looking T thing that attaches the towbar and has bikes sitting vertical, front wheel up. For 4 bikes the best options are gripsport or isi-cariers. I've got a couple of isi carriers. Great offroad, heavy, but solid. When towing I can get three on the roof with 2 thule carriers and a one upside down in-between.2 Photos

For 5 or more bikes, probably need to go for something like a Gripsport bike trailer: https://www.gripsport.com.au/product/bike-trailer/
